Hi Stacey,
My son is has severe Dyspraxia and is almost 6. Was diagnosed almost 18months ago. We had an occupational Therapy assessment and sessions to work on his most problematic areas. Regarding help in the school , it very much seems to depend on where you live and also your school.
There is a Dyspraxia club on netmums, lots of lovely mums and lots of support and advice.
I would imagine that he will undergo an ABC Movement Battery Test which will show where his difficulties lie and what level of difficulties he has.
You will probably need to push for help and support.
Have you had a look at the Dyspraxia Foundation Website. They have support groups and there me be one in your area.
Dyspraxia and ADHD can be co-morbid conditions along with Aspergers , ASD, Dyslexia,ADD , Hypermobility, Hypotonia and more.
That is NOT to say that because you have one condition you will have others, but more that there may be a possibility and to make you aware that if your child has one it may be the case they have another.
I hope this makes some sense and will be of some help to you.
Feel free to pm me if i can be of any help.
Good Luck and let us know how you get on. If you are uptight about it , write a list of any questions you want to ask before you phone the clinic.
With the right help and support your son can achieve the same as any other child. Dyspraxic children are often above average intelligence and this is why the physical difficulties can often cause frustration and low self esteem.
