biography	Even if Pixies hadn't re-formed last year (to widespread acclaim) their legend would still be set in amber. Frank Black, Kim Deal, Joey Santiago and Charles Thompson brought a combination of abrasion, beauty, surrealism and squeals of feedback to what was, essentially, surf guitar-pop influenced by the likes of The Stooges and The Beach Boys. It's a line oft repeated, but without Pixies many of today's guitar bands wouldn't have realised the lengths to which rock music, both lyrically and dynamically, could be pushed. From 1987's 'Come On Pilgrim' to 1991's 'Trompe Le Monde', they were the alternative.
