  • Answer to question: Imagine a scenario like this: - Multiple, complex knowledge graphs are established in the platform. - Each KG might represent a focused business domain - Each KG draws from many data sources of special relevance to that domain - Lots of analytics get done within a single knowledge graph - Other important analytics get done using data from more than one knowledge graph For the analytics done within a KG, I’d anticipate many case in which a query can or should be scoped to the whole thing. And users might not even know all the named graphs in it. So, it’s great to be able to set the whole-KG scope very simply.

  • You can use RDF Graph Groups (RGG) in this manner, but I don’t consider this optimal bearing in mind Virtuoso is a Quad Store that supports the use of a Graph Operator in the body of SPARQL Queries for optimizing construction of the Default Graph used in its query solution production pipeline. We have the live LOD Cloud instance comprising millions of Named Graphs that demonstrates this point. RGGs are more useful for ABAC ACLs. (but we need to double check this claim) Users should simply dump data into Named Graphs and queries should be formulated with explicit Named Graph scope or the use of variables.
